Pizza on the braai this summer with Pizza stones from Gas Extreme. CADAC braais are well-known for their modular design, which allows you to cook more than just meat on your CADAC braai. Did you know your braai can also be used to bake delicious, crispy pizzas?

Almost all of our CADAC braais can be used to make pizzas! The only requirement is that you have a dome-style braai available from Gas Extreme.

Most supermarkets sell fresh pizzas, but making your own is even more fun. If you don’t have enough time, use a ready-made base and top it with your favourite ingredients. Of course, tomato sauce and a generous amount of cheese are required on your pizza!

Why should you use a Pizza Stone?

Pizzas can be cooked directly on the braai grid, but a natural pizza stone makes them even tastier and crispier. CADAC pizza stones are made of durable cordierite and are suitable for all gas braais and gas and electric ovens. The stone absorbs and retains heat well. When you place the pizza on the stone, the moisture in the dough is extracted, giving you that delicious, crispy base you crave.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Pizza stones are very porous, so they should not become too moist. Never immerse them in water; the stone will absorb the water and can easily break when used again.

Cleaning is actually very simple. You wipe the stone after use with a (wet/damp) cloth. You can scrape stubborn residues with a metal dough scraper or spatula. Never use detergent to clean the stone! The stone will absorb the taste of soap, and you will be able to taste it the next time you use it.
It is usual for a pizza stone to darken and stain over time.

Kevin’s tips on how to use a Pizza Stone

  • Use the pizza stone in combination with the pot stand & dome of the braai.
  • Sprinkle some flour over the stone to prevent the bottom from sticking.
  • Do not place frozen pizza on the stone.
  • The baking time depends on various circumstances, such as the thickness of the dough, selected ingredients, weather conditions, etc. Check the pizza from time to time.
  • If the baking process is too fast, turn the braai off and let the pizza cook with the lid on the braai.
  • The stone may also be placed on the braai grid; the baking process takes a little longer. Please note that the grid can be damaged if the stone moves.
  • Never immerse the stone in water, but wipe it clean with a (wet) cloth.
  • Do not use detergent!
